When I bought the boat an older survey said that the lines where too thick and to reduce friction through the blocks and deck organiser the sizes could be reduced. I am talking about halyard, topping lift, vang, etc...

I am going to try to measure them up this weekend as some of them are looking a bit old.

I am intersted in what size others use?

Hi Steve

My topping lift is 8mm
Main and Genoa Halyard is 12mm (pretty sure)
Kicking strap is 8mm.
Reefing lines are 8mm although I think they could be reduced to 6, but 8mm is easier to handle.

Ian

I just got to the boat for the weekend, it is actually dry in wales for once.

My corroded oil sump is going in to be welded on Monday so no sailing for me. A weekend to sort out lines, reefing and leaky deck fittings

I measured the lines as best I could.

Topping 10mm
Main Halyard 14mm
Main sheet 12mm
Vang 12mm
Genoa sheets 14mm

I think there is scope to reduce these as I replace them?

I also sorted out why the sail slides were dropping out everytime I lowered the mainsail, the pin has gone walkabout, just a bit of string remains, so off to the chandlers. This is a bit of a learning curve

Paul, the track is long enough, with a pin in the hole it flakes a lot easier and the sail cover fits much neater.

Hi
All my halyards and sheets are 10mm.
Can't get 10mm though the sheave of the topping lift.
Know this as the new 10mm rope parted and I had to go up mast and feed 8mm through.
Kicker, reefing, topping all 8mm.
Out haul on the main is 5mm high tech.
Barber haulers roller reefing are 6mm.
