Can anyone recommend replacement self-tailing winches for my original genoa winches?

Hi

I replaced mine with Lewmar EVO 15ST which we are very happy with.

You could argue higher power would be good, but SWMBO manages without issue and she is only 5ft 2" and 8 stone(ish).

£299 each. No tools required for servicing, dead easy to fix on to the boat.

I fitted Corsair with the older Lewmar 16ST which is identicle to the new 15ST apart from the gear ratio. An ideal winch for a Sabre where you must rachet the handle as you cannot wind 360 degrees. 5* for a Sabre!

Make sure you orientate the winch so as the 'stripper' drops the sheet into the cockpit, not over the side.

OK, I fitted Lewmar EVO 15ST's and they went on really easily. 5 holes required rather than the original 4 but used one of the original 4 as the base point.

One of the new winches:

Hi,

we have just fitted Andersen 18 ST winches. Before there were fitted Lewmar single Speed 7 winches which were really hard to pull when there was much wind. Two of the original wholes could have been used for the Andersen winches. The reason why we chooses Andersen 18 St its that they are a bit cheaper than Lewmar (maybe only in Germany not in UK) and that the Andersen winches are able to pull lines up to a diameter of 14mm and we like a slightly "bigger" sheet rope as it is easier to pull by hand. The first trip showed that they work well but the gear ratio might be a bit high. It is 1:2,6 so that pulling is really easy but you have to pull really a lot.
