Just done this through Morgan Marine Insurance. For boats valued under £10K they accept a self declaration. My quote was just over £200 for coastal and cross channel plus racing extension - the racing bit was £100 so a very good price without. Spread the word!

Just to add an extra choice, I have been with Towergate Insurance for five years and them very good. They are part of Premier Marine Insurance and the contacts are as follows:-
Sarah Pond 01743 282780 email sarah.pond@towergate.co.uk
Premier Marine Insurance, New Zealand House,160-162 Abbey Foregate,Shrewsbury SY2 6AL

Hope this helps,
Bob.

I have been with GJW for 2 years since i rebuilt Sabreuse, using their self done condition report as recomended through this association.
However at the latest renewal i just received they are insisting on a full out of the water survey by qualified surveyor in 2014.
Now as i have a full record of everything done including photos i will be arguing about this!

Hi guys,

I have just been on the phone to GJW, Kevin Williams 0151473 8000 ref this 'self survey' insurance.

Apparently there has been a cock-up by somebody in the office and GJW will not be requiring an out of water survey, now or in the future, and he appologised for any inconvenience that has been caused.

Paul Howard. S27OA Technical Officer.

Hi

I can confirm GJW do not require out of water survey, as I have just had renewal forms with no mention of surveys.

GJW did require a survey in order to insure Erbas in the first instance recently but don't want her surveyed again until 2019

As I wasn't averse to having an insurance condition survey done before completing on the purchase I didn't raise any objections

Just had my renewal through from GJW. In 5 years it has virtually doubled in price. Sounds like same old story, stay loyal, get screwed!. Anyone else seeing this with GJW??

I just tried to get a quote from GJW and although we've spent thousands rectifying issues found on our purchase survey done last year they won't insure the boat for any more than the purchase price without another surveyor reassessing the value now the work is complete, basically another survey/valuation! So much for 'self survey'.

This 'self survey agreement' is misleading if you want to insure your boat for what it's worth today and not what you paid for it. As others have found, 'no survey' insurance is available from other Companies so GJW are not really offering anything special to Sabre owners.

As ever the best advice is to shop around.........

Yet another reply to this subject. Just got my insurance renewal forms & GJW are yet again insisting on a full out of the water survey prior to renewal next time. This on a boat with a comprehensive documented rebuild to a high standard.
Sorry but im getting ached of with their attitude. Seems the Associations self survey arrangement is still not regarded as adequate.
I will Not accept this condition & will be looking elsewhere.

Latest news, I spoke to GJW & queried the need for a survey as i was a member of the SOA & they immediately changed the requirement to self condition report next time.
I asked for quotes from several other companies but they were insisting on me declaring the original purchase price. As this was somewhat low & bears no relation to what has been done to the boat subsequently i have decided to stay with GJW.
