Re: Tiller shortening

I think to enable us, to help you, it might be a good idea to put up a picture of the offending item, preferably with a tape held against it so we can see the length. All boats tend to be different, so without a starting point, it will be hard for any of us to comment.

Inner Forestay

Other than Tony Mynett, has anybody else fitted an inner forestay to a Sabre? If so, I have questions, for those who have experience please:- 1) Do you leave this rigged throughout the season, or only if heavy weather is anticipated? 2) If rigged, what difficulty if any, do you experience when tacki...

Re: Ballast ratio

I will leave the answer to this for Committee members better qualified than me. All I can say with some authority, is, that despite my very best efforts in some fairly adverse conditions, I have never managed to get my Bilge Keeler to put her rail under water.

Re: Lazy Jacks

Hi, I have come up with a system, that does not involve attaching all type of pulleys and lines to the mast and upgrades to the boom cover. It is a marmite solution, but works well for me, as I sail mainly single handed. It involves attaching a double pulley to the topping lift, which can be done at...

Thank you very much. Certainly food for thought and much more than I had hoped for :)

Loadings - Anchor bollard and cleats

Has anybody any thoughts as to the 'rip out' loads for the main anchor bollard and the forward cleats. Given the Sabre can weigh 3.5 tonnes plus, I am guessing they will not be insignificant? Is there a formula, perhaps, that might help?

Thoughts please?

Re: Main sail for Mark 1

I hate to rain on your parade, but I am fairly certain that is a Mark 2 sail and will be too large for a mark 1. Empiric data from Alan Hill shows the leech at 29'.45" = on calculation 8.976m

Re: Main sail for Mark 1

To be certain, the mast on a Mark 1 is 31'4" and a Mark 2 33'6". If you have the bigger mast, the Mast to top of boom for Mk1 is 26'2" and Mark 2 28'2". 2 foot x 10'6" is a lot of lost power methinks?
