Re: Fitting keel shoes
One of the sabres in our club recently lost a keel shoe in the mud & it must still be there! Im pretty sure they were stuck on with polyester or gelcoat filler. I assume that Brue yachts would have had moulds but these will be long gone now. You could lay up extra glass straight onto the keels t...

Re: Window Refurb
And then i broke the last one......Just touched the edge of the glass on the vice & kaboom It exploded. Toughened glass does this if you are not careful!
So friday it was a trip out to Technautic at Burnham to give them a pattern for a new glass.

Window Refurb
Third time for Sabreuse's windows. When we bought her in 2010 her original alloy windows were very leaky & corroded & we replaced them with new ones around 2011-12. We purchased new ones from Technautic at Burnham & they fitted well & have served well. About 4 years ago we noticed th...

Re: Rubbing strake repair needed
If its an early Sabre the Gap under the lip of the deck moulding was filled with a wooden filler strip at the bow, On later boats the hull mould was altered so the filler strip wasnt required. On our boat i had to replace the rubbing bands & raked out the filler from under the lip & filled i...

Re: Boarding ladder options
I recently replaced the boarding ladder on our boat, it was a cheap folding one that was bolted on at the top only. It was replaced by a decent one that came out of a skip! Four stud fixing through the transom, It is worth remembering that the deck & rear of cockpit moulding has a gap of approx ...

Re: Skeg (soundness of)
They do flex a bit & if its not cracked anywhere should be ok. My boat had spent 20 years plus sitting in a Kent mud berth when not sailing so its not surprising the skeg was filled with mud. The osmosis was so bad i had to replace it, but as i say that boat was in poor condition when i got her....

Re: Skeg (soundness of)
As Ken says, The fin keel skeg is a separate moulding that fits into a moulded recess in the hull. It is bedded on Polyester filler & secured with a ring of about 20 csk stainless steel machine screws they were glassed over on the inside & the outside join was also glassed over & faired....

Re: Original Window frames wanted
There is no point fitting 40 - 50 year old frames even if you can find a set, as they are likely to have lost all their anodising & have corrosion issues.
Technautic made a new set of windows up for our boat 12 years ago & they have been good, now need resealing though.

Re: New Sail Costs
Sail comes off every year when we haul out. I can only think cheap webbing was used.
Just had a good chat with Kemps & have a quote & list of options. The lesson is Buy cheap buy twice!
