Re: The big question
Chris, I can suggest one vary sound reason for sticking with a Sabre - your keel(s) won't fall off. That problem seems to be afflicting an increasing number of modern yachts (names including Jeanneau, Beneteau, Oyster and others) so it is not an unreasonable concern. On the specific Sabre dislikes t...

Re: foresail roller reefing
When converting the headsail to roller reefing there are lots of possible complications. First, the chosen roller gear will restrict the length of the jib luff (at both tack and head). Then the shape of the sail needs to be such that the fairlead position will be near to the aft end of the fairlead ...

Re: Water from Skegg after lay up
Steve, On my Sabre the bronze boot is a sliding fit on to the skeg moulding, so there is inevitably a thin crevice between the two. I guess that slathering the end of the skeg with sealant before fitting the boot might reduce the volume of water that could be trapped there, but might also make the b...

Re: Using the Forum - Adding Images & Subscription Notifications
Nick, I have just tried to post an image by following 'How do I add images' and using Option 2. The file name appears but not the photo itself. What am I doing wrong? As a separate issue, the system does not seem to accept jpgs unless they are cropped or compressed to about 200kB. I imagine that thi...

Re: Cockpit guard rails
I don't know if this will help, but on London Apprentice we fitted additional, short stanchions on the cockpit coaming. They were mounted on cantilever brackets (formed by cutting an alloy cleat in half) so that they push the guardrail further outboard. If they were mounted further forward on the co...
