Re: Re-galvanising anchors
We used to have a local galvanising firm Rayleigh galvanisers, he shut his plant down about 6 years back as uneconomic & acted as a broker for some years until finally retiring a couple of years ago, prices were reasonable. I had some stuff done by South East galvanisers at Witham last year &...

Re: Deep cycle charging
I seem to remember my alternator is a 60 amp, (Beta 16) It seems to charge the batteries ok! They did run flat late last summer as my son had used the boat & left the power on. We will be fitting a solar panel atop the hatch garage this season. As far as the technicalities of it all go i am but ...

Re: Help Required: Sabre 27 Moonflower washed up at Warsash
My bolts are high tensile steel not stainless, despite this all but the front one were still mostly shiny with only faint rust. probably due to being glassed in so no oxygen.

Re: Help Required: Sabre 27 Moonflower washed up at Warsash
Do we know what year she was built? My sabre built in 71 has her keel bolted to a shallow stub moulded into the hull, at its widest the top of the keel is about 220mm wide, The bolts each end are on the centreline the rest are staggered towards the edge.

Re: Skeg Bearing
Tufnol was used originally, Delrin should also do fine for the job, bear in mind that some plasics can absorb water & swell noticeably. I had this on a yacht i built, Engineer who supplied the rudder tube & shaft fitted two nicely fitted nylon bearings, two weeks after first launching the ru...

Re: New Engine
Most people seem to be fitting 3 cylinder Beta 20's or similar. I fitted a Beta 16 with two bladed prop & it has performed very well. I was advised by TS marine who supplied my engine to fit a high rise exhaust elbow to lessen chance of water getting back into the engine. Its worth noting that h...

Re: Rudder Play
The rudder tube is a Tufnol tube glassed in, Over the years it gets worn, there is a fix that i worked out that entails boring the top & bottom of the tube out & gluing in new bearings but you have to remove the rudder first.

Re: Genoa dimensions for Mk2 sabre
My advice would be to measure what you have, There are too many variables to trust a 40 year old sail plan drawing that was probably altered anyway. In our club there are 6 Sabres & all either have different make or height masts or different make furling gears set different heights above the dec...

Re: foresail roller reefing
You will need to measure your forestay, there is considerable variation between mast length on different boats. There are 7 sabres at Benfleet yc & much variation, Meg Merrily is a Mk1 & has a 30ft mast. mine is also a mk 1 but her mast is a foot longer, later boats have masts up to 3ft long...

Re: metalstructur within the Skegg?
As far as i am aware there was no metal structure within the skeg on either the bilge or fin versions as standard. The skeg is a separate moulding that is bolted into a recess in the hull moulding. It is bedded on polyester filler & secured by a ring of stainless steel bolts around its edge. The...
