Genoa dimensions for Mk2 sabre

Post by samphire2014 » Mon Sep 17, 2018 5:23 pm

Hi,

Does anybody know the correct Luff, Leech and Foot dimensions for a Genoa for the Mark 2? The technical manual only lists the square footage and it would be nice to be a little more accurate before splashing the cash!

The correct dimensions for the mainsail would also be helpful, although clearly a little easier to figure out :)

Best

Thanks, I am currently equipped with 2 Genoa's but frankly the oldest is not much use and the second is not much better. They boast the following dimensions, with yours being in brackets:-

Leech 9.40 - 8.76 (9.19)
Luff 9.46 - 9.7 (9.45)
Foot 4.78 - 4.85 (4.78)

As you can see there are some major variations!

Disappointed you are the only member who has commented so far!

Best

My advice would be to measure what you have, There are too many variables to trust a 40 year old sail plan drawing that was probably altered anyway.

In our club there are 6 Sabres & all either have different make or height masts or different make furling gears set different heights above the deck.
Likewise Genoa tracks may have been relocated onto side decks or fore & aft.
Only sure way is to measure what you have.

Blew out my sail comming back from Plymouth to Solent brought a ready made sail from Seateach couple of summers ago
Luff 9.45m
Leach 8.84m
Foot 4.57m area 20.10m2 l belive it works out to 216 sq ft fabric wt 252gsm
That was for a mk2 sabre it is a bit small but works fine
