Paul and Andy Howard sent me two reels of Super 8 film the other day - and I like a challenge. I finally managed to transfer it to a digital format - and you can now see both reels on YouTube.

The footage (which I managed to transfer using a very Heath Robinson method) shows the prototype Sabre 27 being sailed in little wind on Southampton Water. The reels are about 3 minutes each, and the film ends with a shot of the projector I borrowed to make the transfer. I had to improvise a take-up reel out of two blank DVDs and a bottle top; which, by staggering coincidence, is pretty much what holds my boat together as well.

The footage is pretty shaky and out of focus (due more to the cameraman than the broken focus knob on the projector). I decided to leave the projector sound in - just for a little atmosphere.

Fantastic! thank you very much indeed. The yachts that can be identified are of course the Sabre 27, accompanied by the Tomahawk 25, Marcon Striker 22, Rival 32 ( Marcon 32) & the Javelin 30. What a special piece of history this is, that was nearly lost forever then found by a miracle of chance! Its a shame there wasn't more wind when Marcon had this little promotional rally!!

That's brilliant to see, thanks for converting it and posting! Was there anything else exciting in the filing cabinet then?

Yes there were some documents which consist of: Price Lists Jan 1977, ‘Assembly sequence of the Sabre Kit boat’ and the ‘Material Specification of the Fin Keel Sabre’.

These will be put into PDF format and will be available from us in due course when we have time to scan them. We will let you know by e-mail when we have done this.
