My stuffing box has a grease fitting in the threaded steel tube and a remote greaser fitted. The greaser has come off and been lost. I am trying to find out what the thread is to replace. I have tried m8, 3/8 whitworth, 3/8 bsp and its non of those. The 3/8 bsp greaser just flattened its threads after going in about a turn and a half. It's a 1" tube and the stuffing box has heavily castellated nuts. Original Petter AC2/w. Any ideas?

Hi You will probably find it's British Standard Brass which are all 26TPI no matter what diameter it is. (about 1mm pitch on a metric rule).
If is not then it may be 3/8 UNF as a lot of brake pipe fitting were this thread.
I assume it was 1/8 x28 BSPF you tried 0.383" dia.
Can you see if the thread is Tapered? if so then it will be 1/8 x28 BSPT.
Next time i'm on my boat i will take a look.

Thanks Ken - I'd be very interested to know before I tap it out to M8 which is the other solution.

Hi
The brass fitting is an obsolete enox fitting.

The pipe nut thread is 7/16 x 20 UNF.
I didn't remove the fitting from the stuffing box.
