We have decided to fit an electric anchor winch to Pelagos. Has anyone done this recently and if so have they any recommendations or advice on type or size, we have 8mm chain and a 25lb CQR.
Thank you

Sorry to piggyback, but I'd also be interested the manual option

Thanks

Hi,

I fitted a Lofgrans Royal (manual) on Cariona when I did a major refit 10 years ago. It's always worked fine, and we do a lot of anchoring. I'm against electric windlasses on smaller cruisers: it means a lot of extra electrical kit and it's something else that can fail. But I am sure that others will speak favourably of electric windlasses.

I should add one thing, which is important to be aware of (and I was not until after I bought a new windlass), is that not all 8 mm chain is calibrated the same. If you get a windlass or capstan be sure that your chain will fit over the teeth.

Hi Johnie,
Forget the electric windlass, the current used is huge and requires massive cable sizes and large dedicated batteries which will have to be charged and ventilated somehow! Ok for sizable motor boats and large yachts but not for a Sabre 27.
