Hi there Phil,

I'm afraid the short answer is NO. The shaft is not able to move sideways more than a few millimeters so, at best, you must raise the engine so the shaft may be drawn out under it or, most likely, move the engine forward into the saloon. There is no alternative, sorry.

Phil / Paul - How about dropping the 'shoe' and removing the rudder (into a pit)?

Paul Howard has tactfully pointed out the stupidity of my suggestion. Of course, you will have to hack off the skeg as well !!

Hi Paul,
That's what happens when you start getting highly technical too soon after the Christmas party! Amazing what 'good cheer' can generate.
See you next year,
