We are currently undertaking a huge amount of work on our sabre. The most costly thus far is the Engine. We are rebuilding our Yanmar YSE12. We had done some research into this engine and found that it could be rebuilt, after which they run well for many more years. We currently have the boat out of the water and noticed that in the image on the following website the part labelled "C" also needs to be replaced.

I am looking for information regarding the specs for this part to ensure I purchase the correct piece. We are currently in France so this is very important as return postage will be more expensive, should the supplier offer a return service.
The second job we need to do is to clean up the Hull. We have a small amount of osmosis. I would like to grind out and epoxy the holes as I have seen on videos on youtube. I plan to use International Epoxy 2 part resin, is this something people have used on a sabre before? It appears to give good results on a 1974 Nicholson, Our sabre is a '74' so I am putting two and two together... could someone let me know if I have the correct answer.
I also need to change the Large Anode on the hull? Its the first time we have bought an anode or indeed undertaken any of this work. So any information would be greatly appreciated.
Finally we need to replace one of the Toilet Seacocks. It looks to me to be the larger of the two. I found on the forum that these we made by 'Blakes' and the larger of the two is 1.5 inch. However when using google to search for a supplier I have found only supplier with pictures of what appears to be the smaller of the two. Have I got the measurements for this correct or is there something I am missing.
I understand we are asking for a lot of information here, but I hope in time I am able to return the favour.

Hi Seacock dimensions are here 3/4inch and 1 1/2inch British Standard Pipe sizes 3/4 is the bore of the pipe so the OD is just over an inch.

Thanks for the info. I have the cock out now and will be r moreplacin this tomorrow morning.
John at cellar marine is modifying a new cutlass bearing for us.
I have stripped the hull to the epoxy layer and have noticed a crack around the skeg i plan to epoxy this. I hope im on the right lines i will make a post for advice tomorrow morning as i am so pooped now. It has been non stop work ever since we took this boat out of the water. Urrr. Im glad i live aboard as i wouldnt have the time for this if i had home improvements as well. So i have a lot more respect for pleasure boaters.

£1400 approx total spend, including lifting engine out of the boat.
New cyliner head
New piston with rings,
New injector,
All Gaskets change,
New impeller,
New oil (which still runs clear)
New anode,
New Everything
I hope this encourages people not to chuck out the old yanmar. Anything designed in the 30's was designed to last!

Nick nice to see you still posting we were clearing out some stuff and found a cylinder head was this a new one that was never fitted? I have found a receipt for one bought back in 1995
Would be good to know because I'm going to buy some spares this being one of them I intend to keep this thing going forever!

Replacing the anode is easy enough, if she is ashore. I did mine a few seasons ago. Most chandlers can replace like for like. It will usually be a standard MGDuff type. Clean off all the old sealant on the inside and outside of the hull then wipe over with acetone or similar. Once dry use sikaflex in liberal quantities around the two bolt holes. Don't fully tighten the bolts until the sealant has cured for a few days.
Getting a seacock out can be challenging. After the bolts are removed I would carefully play a blowtorch or heat gun over the old seacock. This will loosen up sealant which tends to make removal difficult. Replacement is reasonably straightforward.

Hi Mike & Fi, good to hear from you again. I assume you found the cylinder head in the box(es) of Yanmar spares that went with the boat? If so, I picked these up a few years ago from a fellow Sabre owner at one of the AGMs in Sonning. I rummaged through the bits and bobs only occasionally, as and when I needed specific parts. I can't tell you much about the cylinder head, except that the previous owner of the spares did get some new(ish) parts as standby replacements, some of which I used. This could be one of them. I hope your plans are shaping up - I'm sorry that you seem to have had so many challenges to overcome - I hope that Hyjanorra pays you back in kind. Send her our love!

Thanks for getting back to us. Well good news about the cylinder head as I have put it at my dads for safe keeping so hopefully won't need that for a few years! The challenges have been great. We are filled with so much confidence as we have undertaken it ourselves and feel we know every inch of her. Should any new problems arise we are confident that we can fix them ourselves! So it's great this has all happened early as we can head to sea soon but not till I have done everything I think we need!

It's great to read about all the work that you are doing on your Sabre. I am currently doing a major refurb on my Sabre ( Celerity ) and am really interested in the layout and dimensions of your electrical panel etc on the port side of the companionway and was wondering if you would be willing to be in phone or email contact so that I could get measurements etc from you?
I would be really grateful for any help with this .
