Hi,

Does anyone know how you go about finding out the original sail number that should be displayed.

I own Sabel (1990 Brue), and have no markings on the sail whatsoever. Is a central record kept? Should it match the hull number? Did the builder supply the number, or is it the RYA?

Lots of questions, but if you know anything about the subject, I would be glad of any help.

Richard

Hi Richard,

I went about this process last year and it's pretty simple. I didn't have a sail number (and I didn't have time to dig deep into the past to find out whether or not there ever was one) so I just applied for a new one through the RYA.

All you need is about £25 and some basic info about the boat - they'll then issue you with a new sail number and certificate.

I got mine here:

I'll pluck one out of the air for £20 if you want!

Nothing - absolute nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats
