Yachts for sale in the UK & Abroad

Notes for prospective buyers

The Sabre 27 was designed by Alan F. Hill and the prototype was built in 1969 by Eric White of Marine Construction (UK) Ltd (Marcon). Between 1969 and 1979 some 400 hulls were moulded.

On this page are various Sabre 27 yachts for sale in the UK and abroad. The Sabre 27 is available as either a fin or twin keel boat.

Notes for Sabre 27 sellers

A new owner will want to know all about the boat and its equipment. Records of equipment purchases, maintenance and replacements will also be helpful if a prospective purchaser wants to take advantage of the ‘no survey’ insurance scheme. Owners who plan to sell their Sabres are therefore advised to assemble all relevant documents and receipts, so that they can be passed on when the boat changes hands.

The cost of advertising is:

  • Members: £15 for a three month ad and £5 per month thereafter
  • Non-Members: £30 for a three month ad and £10 per month thereafter.

The Claire Lee

Claire Lee, Twin Keel, 1972
£800 - genuine offers will be considered

Latest Entry Update: September 30, 2024
Location: Southampton, tidal berth on the river Itchen
Contact: Lee (via email button below)

Description

A 1972 Twin Keel Sabre 27, that is now in need of love, attention and complete renovation.

The Claire Lee was my late Father’s yacht, he owned it from new.

From the paperwork I have found, it was built by Marine Construction UK Ltd (Marcon) between late July until mid-September 1972 and it was registered in early 1973. My Father knew Eric White, owner of Marcon.

Always moored in Southampton, it meant during my childhood and adolescence most Sundays during the warmer months (April to October) we would have day trips and weekends away to the Isle of Wight. Summer holidays would be to either stayover on the Claire Lee at Cowes week, or stay at Poole Harbour or we would venture further afield to Alderney and Cherbourg.

The Claire Lee was easy to handle, this was especially relevant to us as a family as we were novice sailors when she was new.

After much soul searching, unfortunately no one in the family wishes to take on the Claire Lee as sadly she has become a ‘project boat’, my father was unwell for a number of years before he died and this lack of maintenance has taken a toll on the Claire Lee as the photos testify. She is now in need of a refit/refurbishment. She is most definitely a ‘project boat’ and definitely not a jump on and sail away yacht.

The Volvo Penta engine (MD1B) was last run in the Summer of 2020. The engine currently turns by hand and this can visibly be seen on the flywheel and the prop. Also she requires a replacement gear-change cable to cockpit.

The tidal berth/mooring would allow for viewing below the waterline ( when the tide is out !! ).

Items

  • Original sails (Main, Jib and Genoa) – these haven’t been checked and so will need inspecting
  • Boathook
  • Fenders
    Original compass

Sabre 27 - Albatross

Albatross, Twin Keel, 1972
£1,000

Latest Entry Update: September 16, 2024
Location: Findhorn Boatyard, near Forres, Moray
Contact: John Harris

Description

Bought (and delivered by lorry) , as a project 3 years ago ,she has not been afloat under our ownership. We have  repainted and tidied many things . Fixed small leaks such as windows.  Lined the fore cabin and rebedded the seacocks. Also many other smaller jobs.

We found a crack in the Bukh 20 that she was powered with.

So we bought a refurbished similar and installed and lined up the replacement . We find  that the replacement is hunting and have replaced all fuel lines & the 2y filter , making no difference.

I have now taken the back off the engine to get to the governor, but that appears to be ok.

At this point, I have run out of time and  money. With the engine either fixed or replaced , she could be in the water , ready for recommisioning.
One possibility would be making one good engine from the two Bukhs .

That is beyond my mechanicing skills, so sadly she must go.

Asking £1000.

She is way too good to scrap.

All bedding foam is available but these have currently been left out of the boat at the moment. The boat can be under sail in a matter of 5 mins due to her easy set-up, all sails can be reefed quickly and safely.

Great first cruising boat, she has had a lot of work put into her over the last few years and is great fun to sail. You have to remember she is now over forty years old, but she is a very strong boat as these were made in Cowes and well made. We have the original paperwork for her. Currently moored in Queenborough harbour.
